Elon Musk has been talking about Tesla making a new smart home HVAC system for a while. While dealing with fans amid the coronavirus, the CEO revises the idea.
He first brought up the idea almost two years ago in an interview about the Joe Rogan Experience.
The CEO discussed the fact that Tesla addresses both energy generation and energy consumption in transportation, but only energy generation with solar energy products in the private sector.
Musk suggested that there is room for more efficient homes with smarter and better air conditioners.
When Rogan asked if he had a design for such an air conditioner, Musk fell silent suspiciously and said:
“I can’t answer questions about potential future products.”
The answer makes it sound like it could be a potential future product for Tesla Energy: an intelligent and more efficient air conditioning system that enables a “Tesla Smart Home”.
We didn’t hear much about the idea until yesterday.
Musk took to Twitter yesterday to bring the idea back:
“Sure, I would like to make a home air conditioner that is quiet and efficient, with humidity control and HEPA filters.”
Tesla has extensive experience with HVAC systems and HEPA filters with their work on the ‘Bioweapons Defense Mode’ in Model S and Model X that use HEPA filters and with the Model 3 HVAC systems for which Tesla has a new patented technology has developed, collected.
The automaker claims that its HEPA air filter system is about ten times larger than a regular car filter (pictured above) and “100 times more effective than premium automotive filters” because it “removes at least 99.97% particulate matter and gaseous pollutants as well Bacteria, viruses, pollen and mold spores. “
When Musk suggested that such a home system would be a “life changer” for people with allergies, he said that it is “a lot bigger business than most people realize:”

Many people, especially those with young families, have recognized the importance of good air quality in their homes Smart Air Purifier products that have been very popular over the past few years.
Musk added that Tesla’s HVAC system “could potentially use the condensed water for water as well.”
The CEO said:
“It seems strange that HVAC systems produce pure, fresh water and just dump it on the ground.”
Such a product would complement Tesla Energy’s growing line of household energy products, including solar panels, solar roof, powerwall and related accessories.
However, Musk did not confirm plans to bring a Tesla smart home HVAC system to market.
