HOUSTON (KTRK) – Pool owners know that getting a fence is an investment that often costs thousands of dollars. But with the pool season coming to an end, now is the time to save a lot of money.
So far this summer, 14 children have died from accidental pool death in the Houston area. Prevention is key to making sure this doesn’t happen in your garden.
Houston homeowner Cheryl Fojt says grandchildren changed their backyard from a place of pure enjoyment to one of great fear with a pool change. But with the grandchildren passing by only occasionally, she wasn’t sure she wanted the huge cost of installing a pool fence.
After a little research, she found that there are several different types of fences to choose from. Wrought iron is durable and usually the most expensive at around $ 20 to $ 100 per foot. A chain link fence costs approximately $ 16 to $ 20 per foot.
The Life Saver Pool Fence in Houston offers another cost reduction solution. Based on the establishment of a backyard, owner Wayne Cannon helps clients design affordable fencing options that do not run around the pool but still keep children safe.
Buying a fence in the off-season can save you an additional $ 100 or more in professional installation fees.
If you’re looking to save even more money, there is a do-it-yourself option that costs around $ 7 per foot. You buy the materials and rent a hammer drill.
“As long as you are good at using a tape measure or ruler and you don’t mind drilling out concrete, take your time, it can be done,” Cannon said.
Whatever option fits your budget, security can be invaluable.
“Probably the best decision we’ve ever made with this backyard,” said Fojt. “Now they can come into this area, ride their scooters, and we can sit down and not worry about this pool all the time.”
