Resident Wanted for RivCo Aging Council, Citrus Pest District

TEMECULA, CA – Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington is looking for community members to fill two positions – one for a third district representative on the Riverside County Advisory Council on Aging and one for a vacant seat in Citrus Pest Control District No. 3.

Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in RivCo’s third district for the Aging Advisory Council slot. And for pest control, the person within District No. 3 must own property wholly or partially dedicated to growing citrus products.

The Aging Advisory Board’s responsibilities include assessing issues affecting the elderly and disabled across the country, such as health, education, employment, housing, transportation and recreation. Members serve a three-year term as advisors and make referrals to the Riverside County Office on Aging and the Board of Supervisors.

Meetings take place every second Wednesday of the month at various RivCo locations. Currently, however, due to the pandemic, meetings are virtual. Members are eligible for reimbursement of mileage and other expenses and must comply with the Ralph M. Brown Act.

Supervisor Washington also plans to fill a vacancy in Citrus Pest Control District No. 3, a body developing strategies to control, eradicate and respond to the Asian citrus psyllid population that can infect citrus crops with the agricultural disease huanglongbing. The board then makes recommendations to the RivCo superiors.

As part of their four-year tenure, members attend meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at the Lake Hemet Municipal Water District, 26385 Fairview Ave., although the meetings are now held virtually. Reimbursement can be made for authorized, actual, and necessary expenses and members must comply with the Ralph M. Brown Act.
