Refund requested after stamped concrete order is not liable

DENHAM SPRINGS – A Livingston Parish homeowner says work on her backyard oasis is sloppy and she wants her money back.

Susan Rabalais and her family had installed an inground pool in their back yard in January. Soon after, they hired someone to paint the concrete terrace to match the concrete around the pool.

“We found Ricky Jenkins and he said he had years of experience,” she said.

They selected the stain colors and paid him $ 2,400 for the job, which took him about three weeks to complete.

“He said, ‘it’s a process, when I finish the process everything will be fine,'” said Rabalais.

She quickly realized that everything was not okay. A day after completing the job, she said the stain came up and flaked off in large sections. Furniture and her dog’s nails immediately scratched the stain paint. Now she fears that there was money in the drain because the person she hired to do the work didn’t come back to do things right.

“I called him the first time he answered and I told him what was going on. I wanted my money back,” she said.

Jenkins also got a call from 2 On Your Side asking what happened. He has since corresponded with Rabalais, saying Monday he would give her $ 1,000 back for work that is out of order. Rabalais says she is asking for $ 1,700 as it will cost her $ 1,400 just to remove the paint so she can start over with a new company.

“We’re looking back now and, you know, the price of his job should probably have alarmed us,” she said.

Jenkins of Stamped Concrete told 2 On Your Side Monday that in the 15 years he worked he had never had a problem with the product he used on Rabalais’ patio and that he would give her a call on Tuesday.
