Plumbing pro Dave Larkin knows his way around bathroom maintenance and updates | Messages

For some homeowners, an upcoming home project for the fall season might involve remodeling or replacing some key items in their bathroom.

Dave Larkin, a plumber at Lowe’s of DuBois for seven years, knows a thing or two about bathroom maintenance and remodeling.

Larkin said customers come to do a variety of things, such as looking for bathroom accessories while building a home, replacing a faucet, shower, bath or toilet, or people who want to do a repair.

Replacing a bathtub or shower can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the style and brand, Larkin said.

Lowe’s will often have specials on bathroom vanities, faucets, and toilets, Larkin says, adding that there are plenty of fall-season specials.

A homeowner can go 10-15 years before needing to replace things in their bathroom, Larkin said, with proper maintenance.

“These things last a long time,” he said.

Typically, in the spring, after tax time, most people come for plumbing help, Larkin said, because they are better financially able to plan a costly project.

Larkin has been in the plumbing business for 40 years, having worked in a plumbing and heating business before Lowe’s, he said.

When people want a tour of their new bathroom options, Larkin says he starts in the bathtub aisle and asks them questions like do they want color or white. He “gets a feel” for what style they’re looking for and then tries to steer them in the right direction.

“I enjoy helping people,” he says.
