(WBNG) – During this pandemic, the community stepped in to help those on the front lines, whether buying them lunch or making mask donations.
Now another service is free for healthcare workers … mowing the lawn.
Plowz & Mowz is an app from Syracuse that found its way to Binghamton last winter.
It features landscaping in the area that goes from clearing snow to mowing the lawn to make life a little easier.
“Our mission has always been to help people, and we wanted to go one step further with healthcare workers,” said co-founder Wills Mahoney.
Due to the pandemic, the app is offering healthcare workers a free lawnmower to say thank you.
“We know they work 12+ hours, crazy shifts, and the last thing they probably want to do is mow their lawn. So we said, ‘Hey, let’s give them a free lawnmower,'” Mahoney said .
Healthcare workers say it’s a small gesture that means a lot.
“It takes over two hours just to mow and then all the extra stuff and that’s time we could spend with our family. So it’s nice when someone else comes to do that, and it is convenient to find it in an app, “said nurse Jamie Turcotte. “I’ve never had so much support in my life. Everyone always says, ‘Thank you very much, nurses are great.’ Everything is fine, but the support from the community has been incredible. “
In addition to helping healthcare workers, the app also helps the small businesses it works with.
“Every landscaping company is a hit during this time. To get them more work, we pay 100 percent for it. I’m sure they mean a lot,” Mahoney said.
Lawn Works Landscaping out of Vestal offers Plowz & Mowz services.
“You’ve definitely helped me grow and get more accounts in the community,” said Justin Scheddin, owner of Lawn Works.
His business also likes to help a bigger cause.
“It’s just another lawn, you know, and we do the same quality work we do for everyone else, and it feels really good to give back to our community,” Scheddin said.
