Macon youths begin lawn service during the pandemic

After COVID-19 canceled their summer plans, Donta and Jonta Thorpe decided to start their own business called Twins Lawn Service.

MACON, Ga. – Two Northeast High School students decided to go into business after the pandemic stopped normal activities for the summer.

A normal summer for Donta and Jonta Thorpe would include attending Upward Bound at Middle Georgia State University, playing soccer, or going to band camp, but they are unable to attend because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two are not old enough to find work. After a little advice from their father, they decided to start their own business called Twins Lawn Service.

Jonta says her parents always pushed her to succeed, no matter what.

“We were always taught that if we want something, get it – don’t let that stop you, and we were raised not to be a quitter and to strive for what we want, and that’s what we do,” he told Jonta .

The boys have mowed lawns for several people so far and are looking forward to growing their business.

Her plan is to go to college after graduation.
