Landscaper, lawn services back in business under Whitmer’s new assignment

Landscapers, lawn service companies, tree nurseries, and bicycle repair shops can resume operations, subject to social distancing rules.

LANSING, Michigan – Governor Gretchen Whitmer is resuming some services to order a new executive order that was previously deemed insignificant.

Landscapers, law firms, tree nurseries, and bicycle repair shops can resume operations, subject to social distancing rules. Big box retailers no longer have to close down garden centers and areas to sell paint and carpets.

Whitmer spoke about the changes in a press conference on Friday. She stressed the importance of social distancing for these workers.

“That means they should have limited contact with customers, that employees should have the personal protective equipment they need, such as glove goggles and, if necessary, masks,” said Whitmer. “If they use common tools or machines, additional hygiene measures must be taken.”

Some lawn maintenance and landscaping companies have threatened the governor with legal action for missing the spring work days.

“The governor has taken a number of critical steps to protect families in Michigan, and this order will enable that work to continue today. We will continue to closely monitor the data and work with our partners across the state government to contain the spread of COVID-19, “said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, Michigan Chief Medical Officer.

The regulation also lifted restrictions on golf and motorized boating. However, it does mandate that all Michigandans must now wear masks in public.

“We will consider this, the preparatory phase of economic reintegration, we will measure. We will collect data. We will continue to expand our testing and traceability. And we will make informed decisions about further potential economic reintegration in the coming days but it depends on you, “Whitmer said in the meeting on Friday morning.
