Is there a shortage of swimming pools when we hit the hottest week?

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – This week is going to be the hottest of the year.

But those looking for relief from the heat with their own swimming pools may have to wait until next year.

News 12’s Bekah Birdsall has the details.

This week is expected to be the hottest week of the year.

Rising temperatures along with increasing humidity can create dangerous heat index values in the low 100’s.

While most public swimming pools are closed, many have tried to get their hands on their own swimming pools.

“You know, kids are at home, it’s a lot easier to keep them entertained when they have a swimming pool, hot tub or something like that. Also, many people say they canceled their vacation and used their money on DIY or home entertainment. “

A local pool company in Chattanooga says demand was so high it sold from above-ground pools in May.

“Towards the end of March, when the shutdown happened, we immediately saw a big increase, probably 30-40% year over year.”

They said this was the biggest surge they had seen in the last decade of their business.

The supply of above-ground pools has decreased due to the slowdown in production at the factory. Part of it is in New York City, a former epicenter of COVID-19.

“They actually told us they weren’t going to take any more orders this year because they’re so secure.”

The Greater Backyard has already made a pre-order list for the above-ground swimming pools that will arrive next year.

Pool sales have grown nationally, and The Greater Backyard has seen customers from all over the world trying to get their hands on a pool this summer.
