After stepping into the vegetable garden at her Hamptons home during the pandemic and tending her own lawn – planting, sowing, and growing – she’s partnered with a new lawn care company instead. Barrymore praises the lawn care program for everything from its seasonal delivery system and natural ingredients – like wheat flour and molasses – to its Helvetica-type packaging, made from bio-based plastic made from sugar cane. The program will be adjusted based on your zip code and will take into account the size of your lawn. It offers fertilizers for spring, summer, and fall, as well as grass seed mixes, depending on the details above. Essentially, it takes the guesswork out of caring for your lawn.
“Lawns turn into a museum at times, and I think more than ever – largely because of the pandemic and for me growing up in California – that lawns are a place we need to be,” says Barrymore. Whether you’re playing a slip ‘n’ slide or lying in the grass with your pets for five minutes – a luxury she recently indulged in – using your lawn is such a simple pleasure that it can’t be taken for granted should, she adds. “It’s also a good reminder of what we are all fighting for – for this planet and our families, and for being people who leave earth in a good way.”
