NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – A Massachusetts man tired of stealing his Donald Trump campaign sign has come up with a shocking solution: an electrified fence around him.
John Oliveira, 54, a veteran of the disabled Navy and a member of the New Bedford School Committee, put up the fence a few weeks ago.
Oliveira told Southcoasttoday.com, which first reported the story, that he displayed a Trump sign on his lawn in late May. The first disappeared in July.
A total of six characters were taken, he told The Boston Globe.
His last sign hasn’t been stolen since the fence went up.
“I defend my property and my right to freedom of expression,” he said.
The yellow and black solar powered fence that was purchased from a farm shop is about 3 1/2 feet high. It has warning signs in English, Spanish and French.
He informed the police about the thefts.
The fence isn’t pretty, he admitted. “But I’m not going to sign up because someone keeps stealing it or someone takes it because they don’t like what I’m saying,” he said.
