STATEN ISLAND, NY — Got a crack for interior design? How about some serious decorating and frosting skills? Pop-Tarts, the yummy toaster pastries that have been produced and distributed by Kellogg’s since 1964, is looking for innovative home remodeling ideas, each one constructed using varieties of the classic breakfast treat. If you come up with something truly unique, there’s a chance you could win a $15,000 grand prize.
“Rather than building the same quaint, cookie-cutter gingerbread houses this year, we hope families will consider a crazy good renovation instead,” Heidi Ray, senior director of marketing for Portable Wholesome Snacks, said in a press release announcing the contest. “We are reintroducing Gingerbread Pop-Tarts to inspire a new era of gingerbread house building that’s modern, memorable, and most importantly, delicious. We hope the added incentive of the $15K prize will get fans into the spirit, the Pop-Tarts way.”
To set the stage for holiday house-making, Pop-Tarts teamed up with Zillow to list the first-ever Gingerbread Pop-Tarts house on the real estate marketplace.
“Keen eyes will note the limited-edition artwork on the delicious Frosted Gingerbread Pop-Tarts above the fireplace,” the listing reads. “In the bedroom upstairs, just beyond the beautifully restored Frosted Apple Fritter wallpaper, a sun-drenched reading nook looks out on all .0006 acres of property. All in all, this pastoral palace has to be seen — and tasted — to be believed.”
Nestled in the heart of Wild Berry Woods, the drool-worthy Pop-Tarts Gingerbread farmhouse is turnkey and tasty, with scrumptious siding and snackable shingles. There’s Cookies n’ Crème kitchen countertops and a Chocolate Fudge bedroom reading nook. And while the Zillow house is extreme and probably impossible of amateur replication, it should provide some inspiration for average families competing for the prize.
