YORK, PA (WHTM) – A roofer’s Facebook post about raising awareness of breast cancer went viral in less than 24 hours.
Miller’s Roofing, Inc. has been family-owned and operated for 45 years for windows, gutters and roofs. With just 10 employees, the company only had 200 Facebook likes. They wanted more.
“If we could have got an additional 50 likes we would have been impressed, so this really blew all the dreams we had,” said owner Joshua Miller.
The company posted a picture of Joshua wearing a pink sweatshirt on Oct.10.
“It just said, ‘Like and share this post and be signed up to win a sweatshirt,” Miller said.
The likes poured in, as well as the requests for sweatshirts.
“If we do something like that, we might get 20 or 30 hits, so it was a big surprise,” said Miller.
Now the post has 40,000 likes, 300,000 shares and hundreds of orders are coming in from all over the country.
“I was shocked. I was just stunned, couldn’t believe it, wasn’t sure why, but I was stunned and it’s for a good cause and we thought, ‘Why not, let’s order a few and see how much money we can collect. “said Miller.
All of the money goes into breast cancer research.
“I think we’re going to try and sell a lot each year, educate people, and raise money for breast cancer,” Miller said.
Miller’s Roofing will start selling the sweatshirts next week. If you want to buy one you can visit their Facebook page. The competition is valid until the end of the month.
