Dyzmond says he has been cutting grass since he was 5 years old. Now the community is helping him start his business by donating equipment and supplies
BEAUMONT, Texas – While most 11-year-olds worry about playing video games or watching videos online, Dyzmond St. Andre wants to turn a lifelong passion into reality.
For some children, cutting grass is a chore. But not for Dyzmond.
“I’ve been cutting my grandmother’s grass since I was five years old,” said St. Andre.
When he was eleven, he was collecting most of the summer to start his first business: a lawn care service.
“I have to get the hitch and the trailer, then I’ll be fine. Then I have to get my cards, just like my business cards and shirts come,” said St. Andre.
An ambitious goal – but no surprise for his mother Jakera Vann. She says this dream started when she was 5 years old.
“He never stopped talking about it, I thought, you know how some kids are. I want to be a cop, I want to do lawn maintenance, I want to be a firefighter.” It has never changed, “said Vann.
The young entrepreneur got his first big break after a woman stopped by to buy some snacks to support his business.
The fundraising inspired a social media post that has now been shared more than 20,000 times. It leads to the support of complete strangers who donate supplies and money.
“There were whites, blacks, Mexicans, they all came together and I like that. I like it when a community sticks together, and all in all that was just wonderful,” said Vann.
St. Andre told 12News about some of the devices he had received.
“They gave me a lot of lawnmowers, I liked them all a lot. But I like the blowers and the weed eaters the most,” said St. Andre.
So what can customers expect?
“I only cut grass for my and my grandma’s,” said St. Andre. “I tried to cut grass for a long time.”
It is a dream that is now becoming a reality thanks to random kind actions.
If you’d like to support Dyzmond while he is ready to start his ministry, you can do so by sending a message to his mom on Facebook to donate.
