Asphalt paver of the BOMAG CR 820 series

The 8-foot asphalt pavers of the BOMAG CR 820 series have a new operator platform, new controls and improved visibility. The paver has a 160 hp diesel engine that complies with Tier 4 final emissions standards and a 10-tonne hopper. Typical projects for the new machines are parking lots, lane overlays, development roads, county roads and interstate shoulders.

Both the tracked asphalt paver and the wheeled asphalt paver, the CR 820 T and CR 820 W, incorporate significant improvements to the operator’s platform. The new double swivel seat and consoles provide improved visibility from both the left and right sides of the paver. The company’s “side view” function swivels the seat and console outwards at four different angles to improve the view of the side of the paver finisher and screed end gates. The open grate design of the platform floor allows a direct view of the spreading snails.

A new 7-inch multi-function color display on each console provides important operating functions, displays, parameters and error messages. The latter enable on-site troubleshooting to improve the serviceability and uptime of the paver. According to the manufacturer, new toggle switches, each of which controls a single paver function, should increase the reliability of the switches and enable quick and easy replacement anywhere and anytime.

A new soundproof engine hood made of composite material reduces the noise level of the paver. The inclined design of the bonnet offers a clear view of the funnel from the driver’s seat. The hopper wings are held securely in the upper position with manual locks, which increases safety when maintaining the machine, says BOMAG.

The CR 820 series has a three-point suspension “to allow the paver to hover over irregularities in the substructure and to maintain the preset screed inclination and inclination and to achieve a higher level of smoothness than conventional pavers with fixed rear suspension,” according to the company. The Frame Raise System allows the rear of the paver to be raised and lowered to adjust the head of material on the augers. The Smartrac function automatically ensures the correct track tension.

The hydraulically extendable Screed Stretch 16 enables variable paving widths from 8 to 16 feet and a maximum paving depth of 12 inches. Quick connect extension kits can expand the width to a maximum pavement width of 20 feet. An automatic screed lock holds the screed safely in the raised position for transport, maintenance and storage.
