An estimated 30,000 people are injured by garage doors every year – don’t let it be you!

BAYSIDE, Wisconsin (CBS 58) – The garage door is considered by many to be one of the most used and overlooked devices in your home. In fact, it is estimated that around 30,000 people are injured each year from this feature due to simple human error alone. CBS 58 spoke to an expert who says that you really should be extra vigilant while operating as many of us treat it more like a front door.

Aaron Bernstein, owner of Milwaukee’s Bayside ProLift garage doors, offers plenty of advice, including keeping hands and feet away from the large parts. He also advises people to hire a professional when it comes to working on cables, hinges, and especially springs.

It is also highly recommended that you ensure that your garage door remote control is not being used as a children’s toy. And never run under a moving door. All of this advice comes as we round out National Garage Door Safety Month, which happens in June. For more information on garage door safety, click here.
