Lincoln police say a man who received a notification through his security system spotted two intruders on video who broke into a neighbor’s garage around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. It happened in the 3200 block of Wilderness Hills Blvd.
Officer Erin Spilker says after reviewing the video, the man saw two people walking through the complex parking lot checking the garage doors. When the neighbor came out he saw the couple in a garage and yelled at them to stop. The two burglars ran when the neighbor chased them, dropping most of the items they were carrying in their hands along the way.
When the officers arrived in the area, they could not find them. The garage owner identified the items that were dropped as tools removed from their garage, valued at an estimated $ 620. This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
Spilker says they have seen an increase in garage break-ins in apartment complexes in southeast Lincoln. It saw a 173% increase from 2019 to 2020, with the total loss from garages estimated at around $ 20,000 in 2020. “It’s easy to forget to check your garage door at the end of the day. Set an alarm and make it a routine, your 9pm routine, ”says Spilker
