During the program, students will receive training at a state-of-the-art facility in Jasper, learning diagnostic techniques, the use of test equipment, and principles of mechanics, electricity and electronics related to repairs. Students who complete the program will earn Bevill State and EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification and prepare them for the HVACR Contractor exam in the state of Alabama.
“As a veteran in the US Navy and someone who’s been in a variety of professions, the HVAC program was an opportunity for me to pursue a career,” said Kirkland graduate.
“Because of my family financial situation, I had no access to the typical community college program. Through this partnership between Alabama Power and Bevill State, I was able to receive a scholarship and complete the program. Now my future looks bright, ”said Kirkland.
In addition, graduates have the opportunity to interview potential employers after completing the program. Previous program graduates have joined the workforce and the response from hiring companies has been positive.
The application window for the summer class 2021 has been closed and the selection is in progress.
Applications for the spring class 2022 will open in August of this year. Enrollment is open to high school graduates or people with GED diplomas from the age of 18. The program has limited seating and scholarships are available.
