Air conditioning engineer killed in explosion

SERBIA: An air conditioning engineer has died and two others were injured, one of them seriously, in an explosion at the Belgrade offices of Serbia’s public broadcaster RTS.

The explosion in the broadcaster’s car park at 09.45 yesterday (Dec 4) is thought to have been caused by a “welding gas” cylinder. Early reports said that the workers were removing the cylinder from the vehicle when the explosion occurred, but RTS later reported that both workers were outside the vehicle at the time.

The dead and seriously injured workers are reported to have been employed by Belgrade-based contractor Ening Energetika. They were on site to carry our repairs to the broadcaster’s air conditioning system. The other injured person was an employee of RTS.

The engineers’ vehicle was completely destroyed, several other cars were badly damaged and windows broken in the RTS offices.
